Reading 木 in context

木 is き when referring to a tree and もく in 木曜日 (もくようび, Thursday). Notice the two outward strokes in the lower half of 木; compare them with the extra short stroke near the bottom of 本.

木曜日に本を読みます。

もくようびに ほんを よみます。

I will read a book on Thursday.

Watch for this: 木 and 本 are different characters. If they blur together, copy each once and mark the short extra stroke in 本 before trying a recall test.
