Reading 水 in context
水 means water and is read みず as a standalone word. In 水曜日 (すいようび, Wednesday), it uses すい. A drink and an appointment make useful separate prompts for these two readings.
Try it in a sentence

水を飲みます。
みずを のみます。
I drink water.
Watch for this: Read 水曜日 as すいようび. Knowing 水 as みず does not let you replace the first part of the weekday with みず.
